Meet Your Host Firm

Emma Turnbull Lawyers are one of Melbourne’s most diverse and experienced specialist criminal law teams. Every lawyer, regardless of their position in the firm, is an in-court advocate on a daily basis.

Their legal team represents a wide range of backgrounds, specialties, and levels of experience. From seasoned partners with decades of practice experience to talented junior lawyers who bring fresh perspectives, they have the perfect blend of skills to handle any legal matter their clients may encounter.

During your time on CLIP you will have an opportunity to meet with partners, attend court with Associates and ask first year lawyers about their early days of practice. The firm is committed to the future focus of the criminal justice system in Victoria and CLIP is but one example of that commitment.

You can read more about your host firm on their website.

As a first-generation lawyer, from a family with no legal connections, I know firsthand how hard it can be to get a foot in the door in this industry. As crime is such a niche area of practice, not a lot of universities offer opportunities for students to gain industry exposure or to help make contacts during your studies to help you find a grad role. There have always been a lot of commercial law clerkships, however nothing existed in crime. In 2024, I decided to change that.

CLIP is intended to open the door for those students or lawyers who have a real and genuine desire to practice in criminal law. The goal is that during your time in CLIP you will be exposed to the realities of working as a criminal lawyer, gain a real understanding of the importance of our work and the sense of purpose it can give to your career.
